Al Agnew Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 The Current is pretty big at Van Buren and of course, the fishing is for smallmouth...no trout. This time of year the fish will be hanging in deeper pools for the most part, so fly fishing for them means going deep with streamers. Don't know how you're planning on fishing it, but wading it in that area is pretty much fruitless...you need a boat or canoe of some kind and you need to do a float trip unless you have a jetboat. If you want to fish for trout it's an hour's drive or more to the trout section of the Eleven Point, or a little longer to get the upper end of the Current where you'll find good trout fishing. If you want to wade for smallmouth, you might try the upper Jacks Fork above Alley Spring, which is also within an hour's drive or a little more from Van Buren.
