Dry fly fishing is always possible at RR. However, it has been a little slow lately. Some BWO, caddis, and midges are hatching each day. I would try a griffeth's gnat, smaller x-caddis, or a small adams.

Good luck and give us a report when you get back. I will be up on Saturday.

River came up about a foot last night, it will fall pretty quick, but I doubt there will

Be really good dry fly fishing this next weekend, fishing has been really good, mostly

streamers and nymphs.

There is always a few fish rising, griffiths gnats, Adams, and blue wing olives will work

most days, caddis of some sort hatch just about every day.

I hate to say anything good about Tim, but he taught me something. If the fish start "midging" [dimpling the surface]tie on a parachute style dry fly. Color or style doesn't seem to matter or at least it doesn't too me. The first Monday of C&R, the fish started picking something off the surface during a shower late afternoon. I dropped a parachute adams with just enough floatant to float the hackle and let the body break the film. The rainbows were fighting each other over that fly.

Is it safe to assume fishing scud, fur bugs etc in am and throwing dry fly in the pm? I just know I'll have to tie on a caddis or something sometime during the day. What about stripping crackle backs? Never trout fished after August before so this is all new to me. Thanks for the help!!

Crackle backs are great most days, drifted or stripped, I've been using 16's & 14's, brown/yellow body, & grizzly/green body

Fur bugs, scuds, sow bugs, copper johns, zebra midges, and hares ears almost always work, really about any nymph, in

14's-20's will catch fish, I fish pheasant tails a lot and I usually catch several fish. Good luck

Strippin with sinking leader on the cracklebacks? Green and grizzly is one of my favs. 19" brown is my largest and would like to better that Friday. With all this good advice maybe I will. Thanks and I'll be checking back in tonight for any last minute suggestions. Anybody fish today it'd be good to here how it went. Pullin out at 3:30 in the am so probly hit the sack early tonight but will check here before we leave I'm sure.

Had a great day. Thanks for the suggestions. Son caught a nice one 3-3 1/2 lbs on a muddler minnow. See attached photo. What strain of trout is this? Had the hook on the lower jaw and was very red. Alot thicker and wider than it looks in the pics. I even caught 14 on dry flies mostly on Elk Hair Caddis And some on a black wooly bugger stripped.

That is just your normal hatchery rainbow. It is probably the Missouri strain, engineered in the hatchery system for resistance to disease and their spawning schedule. Nice fish.
