Gatorjet Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Another gun show, another treasure. This time a barrel for my G2 'Tender to make it a real "hand cannon". 10" SSK Industries 45-70 barrel with T/C sights, and built in muzzle brake. Also picked up some 300gr. HP rounds to give it a try with. Might be able to get to the range Monday, so I'll let ya'll know what it's like.....If I can still type with my right hand!!! LOL Real men go propless!
Members LOZman Posted November 27, 2011 Members Posted November 27, 2011 300 gr.? If you go to Top Gun range let me know. I gotta see this thing go boom.
Gatorjet Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 Don't know if Top Gun would even let me shoot it there! I know it's below their MV limits, but I don't know if they have any limits on energy. Real men go propless!
Gatorjet Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Touching this thing off might get real interesting! 45-70 round & 22 Long Rifle for comparison! Real men go propless!
Members LOZman Posted December 1, 2011 Members Posted December 1, 2011 That is a heck of a big round. I've shot 50 cal S&W and a 56 cal Walker Colt black powder replica. Both will jolt and twist your forearm but the Walker is in a class of it's own. The powder flare alone would scare most people. By the way, it is obvious that the 45-70 is a two handed weapon.
Gatorjet Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 The Super 14 barrel in 35 Remington that was on my 'Tender when I got it will get your attention too. I was shooting with a bunch of guys back in August. One of them had a S&W 500Mag. It wasn't as "forceful" as my 35 Rem. 'Tender, so I slipped a round in it without him seeing. Told him "try this". His comment, after the shocked look on his face was "That was a surprise"! Real men go propless!
Gatorjet Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 Got to give the "hand cannon" a try the other day. Still some dialing in, and load work up to do, but I was getting about a4" group @ 50 Yds. About 6-8 inches low though. the recoil was quite impressive, along with the muzzle blast, and concussion. Still manageable, but I forgot shooting gloves, and the sting in the web of my hand was pretty severe. I learned real quick that proper grip in mandatory, and proper placement of the support hand a must to avoid getting misplaced fingers banged up! I'm going to swap out the open sights that came on the barrel with a set of fiber optic open sights that came off my 35 Remington barrel. Then give it another go, and dial in the sights with some Hornady Leverevolution 325 Gr. ammo. Real men go propless!
