Members smack1144 Posted November 26, 2011 Members Posted November 26, 2011 Looking to get a inflatable pontoon, im about 270 lbs. going to be fishing some small lakes and rivers want to know what would be a good pontoon that would have a trolling motor, some gear that can handle the weight and still be easy to handle in wind, we always have 10 to 20 mph. winds in SD. Im the kind of guy who thinks bigger is better and in this case im not sure this is the correct thinking, can someone give me some insight, thanks.
BackCastingGolfer Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I'm looking at getting this one, you'd have to get the trolling motor separately, but it does have the mount, alot of them in this price range don't have the mount.

XP 590 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I have a Water Skeeter River Tamer. Think I paid @$600 but it's pretty heavy duty with 400 LB capacity, 9 ft, double chamber pontoons. came with trolling motor mount and pully system for anchor. Also had a stripping basket apron and two very handy "saddle bags" that sit on top of the pontoons. I haven't tried with a motor yet but I can tell you this: rowing these things is no fun. The first few tries on the Niangua river when the water was up were pretty fun, but at lower levels where I had to row through long flat stretches, it was a drag. Same with lakes. I'm thinking about getting a trolling motor this spring to try some local bass lakes. In looking into that, I discovered those deep cycle batteries weigh a ton so that needs to be figured in when looking.
Troutnut69 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I have a FishCat Panther that I use on the local Missouri rivers for floating and fishing. The thing I really like about this version is that it has four low profile pontoons instead of just two larger ones. The purpose of this is to keep you low to the water thereby avoiding being pushed around by the wind , which believe me can be a real pain in a pontoon. I don't lake fish much but I would think it would be advantageous there as well. I know there's a wealth of options out there and it's a tough choice for sure , in my experience FishCat is one of the more well made brands for a mid-priced option.
BackCastingGolfer Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I found a kayak I like, and the price is right. Might get a pontoon at some point, but it was either a yak or a toon, the only competition was the price, and the yak won!
