Wayne SW/MO Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Smallmouth, Missouri's native answer to trout. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Im headed up that way to fish with Brian next week to find some smallmouth!! I'm not that far south of ya'll really, but I'm hearing it could rain 3 to 8 inches. Sounds like some rain would be good to color the river as you say, hope it's not overkill before I head up there. I read on here one time somebody was talking about the water can even cloud up coming out of Greer after alot of rain, I find that fasinating, I figured it would be filtered out and be clear no matter what, neat things you learn on here... There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Brian Sloss Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 I am thinking the rain will only make things better. Of course we can get too much, but looking at the forecast, I am feeling good about it. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 That sounds great, I guess being the beginning of a river system helps drain out alot faster than being 100 miles downsteam of a watershed. I'm so excited, I'm giving up the first day of the second split of our duck season, but like I have always said, I like to hunt, but I love to fish!! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Trout Commander Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 You guys didn't happen to see a TFO Pro 4wt and an Allen Alpha I laying on the bottom didja? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Brian Sloss Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 We are going on Thur and will keep our eyes open, but I doubt the water will be very clear, so seeing the bottom may be an issue. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 How much rain did you get up there Brian? Think the water will be alright? Looked like you didn't get near what wer did, got over 5 inches here, ditches and river here are full. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Brian Sloss Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Got about 4 inches and so far the river has come up and has a green stain, but it looks fine unless we get a bunch of water from way upstream. I will call if it turns bad, but it should be fine. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Ok thanks, guess you got more rain than I thought. Probably be alright by Thursday hopefully. Brian, also my buddy that coming to wants to bring his spinning rod, what would be a good bait to use that would be legal in the trophy area? I also plan on bringing my TFO 4wt, I've got some 1/124 oz jigs that work great on the Little Red, may have to swing that one a few time for some trout if we get the chance. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Brian Sloss Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 1/8th marabou jigs in a variety of colors, which I will have. Have him bring some crank baits as well. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
