Members Fredrick Posted December 12, 2011 Members Posted December 12, 2011 For me their are two extremes when fishing around the ozarks . Its hot in the summer and its mostly about the bass. Then when its cold its mostly about the trout not to say I didn't fish trout in the summer and don't catch bass when its cold. But right now its the trouts time to shine . I still am amazed at streams I would pass up time after time because they looked empty. I stared off throwing rooster tails and caught 2 trout one 15 inches one 17 very fat. Then after a few misses and nips I switched to power bait eggs. I am not always for using powerbait. The general consensuses is that it catches mostly smaller trout and they gut hook you either cut the line or hurt the trout . This story is not the same using powerbait eggs one sunrise and one chartreuse. I landed a trout of about 16 inches and he was lip hooked like a bass. After releasing him unharmed I smashed the barb on the hook.I caught lots of trout after that some big some small. Now it was like the bass fishing in the summer months set the hook after the strike bam fish. Let me tell you if you know how to play a fish and your quick enough to put a bend in the rod smashed barbs are the way to go. I am catch and release only and I felt terrible hurting a fish when I wanted to let it go. For me its great landing a nice bass or trout and with my bare fingers with almost no resistance pulling the hook out no blood no fuss. All and all I had a great day fishing . jagermeister anyone?
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Nice report. Are you bank or boat fishing? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
