Members asap52 Posted December 29, 2011 Members Posted December 29, 2011 Fellow fly fishermen, Had a very good day considering I haven't fished the LIR since late July. The count was between 20-30 with several misses and a lot rolled. I parked at the gravel parking lot and began fishing at about 1:15 on the NE corner of the island. After about 45 min in that area I moved to the hole N of the island fishing below the boulders. Remained there until almost 4 P.M. The water was flowing well and the clarity is so much better. I have a few pics of fish I caught (notice the brown) as well as what I used to catch most of them on. Tight lines, Corky
JCWolfe Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Makes you wonder if thats an accidental brown or did they intentionally stock some browns. I haven't got one out of the fish I've caught so far. Okiemountaineer
DaddyO Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Nicely done Corky! I'm heading down tomorrow. I hope I have as good a day as you did. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

DaddyO Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Well, I'm gonna start at the island. Maybe I'll see you. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
On The Fly 6 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Any reports from yesterday? DaddyO Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Here is a late report from Thursday. I got on the water about 1:30pm. There were more people than I have ever seen down there. It took me 3 hours to catch 5 fish. I ran into ASAP as he was leaving. (Nice to finally meet you Corky) During the hour before the blew the horn, and after most of the people had cleared out, I managed to catch 10 more fish. Corky said that he lost count after 28 fish. Sorry, no pics. Best fish was about 14 inches. Oh, I forgot to mention, the first non counting fish that I caught was a Perch. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
dgames Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I went yesterday. It was very crowded. Counted 20+ cars at the gravel lot below the dam when we got there. Actually started out pretty slow. Worked my way up the back side of the island. Got to one spot and then started hammering em for a couple hours. I was catching them with my usual stimulator dry fly dropper rig with everything caught on the dropper. Most of my fish were on a size 12 bh brownish/olive wooly bugger looking thing. My friend did really well on a bh midge.

Very glad to finally meet u as well.. I found that the fish I caught seemed to be in pockets and if you found them.......then you would catch a bunch of them. I used a white and a peach colored fly called a yummy worm below a palsa indicator. I know I caught at least 28 and I'm sure I lost count a couple of times so I'm thinking honestly in the 30's. Two of the trout were browns. Even with the amount of people there, it was a beautiful day to be on the river.
