Members flyfisherman Posted January 1, 2012 Members Posted January 1, 2012 Brian Sloss of 11 Point Canoe has always asked me to fish for smallies in the winter. For starters it was 60 on January 30th, it was a bonus before we even started fishing. It was worth driving from KC and wading with two one inch slashes in waders which at least kept me awake. The first two casts netted nice 14-15" smallies and the action was steady all day even with a few fisherman hitting that stretch all day. I have been fishing the Point for many years and never targeted smallies what a mistake they are trout on steriods. Many thanks to Brian for showing me how to target and catch smallies and for putting up with my feeble attempt to work a drift boat, I now have a greater repsect for guides who row these bad boy, icing shoulders as I type, Happy New year to all Point fisherman
Members Betty and Patrick Posted January 5, 2012 Members Posted January 5, 2012 Betty and I have been coming up there for several years and I caught my first smallie at turner. We always camp there and if you see two drunk memphians and a jeep liberty at turner you are always welcome to come and talk fish stories and have a steak because more than likely we will have one. Brian is great and I am totally addicted to stone flies during the summer and early fall. Sculpins on a spin reel fished on the drift and reeled in totally rock slowly rock. Brian if you read this I have a ton of marabou in my box and have caught nada. But, your flies rock. As does your firewood. We look forward to seeing you in the spring. Oh a side note. if you are going to camp at turner pack in and pack out please do not leave your diapers at or on the river. We clean up and try to leave the area better than we found it. We live in TN and should not have to pick up after the locals that goes for those who spray painted the rocks and the johnny house. I am off my soap box now. Have a great winter fishing and save some smallies and trout for us. See youins in the spring.
