Members TheTugistheDrug Posted January 16, 2012 Members Posted January 16, 2012 Couple hours each day. Never really left the gravel parking lot area below the dam. Afternoon on Saturday and noonish on Sunday. Fish were visible all over and were surfacing and jumping out of the water fairly often. Even saw what-looked-like two greyish/brown mayflies taken on the surface. Caught 'em on black zebra midge, pink weighted worm, and black wooley buggers...

Caught several fish the majority on a black zebra midge, also had luck on an olive wooly bugger and a red midge. Best time for me was from 3pm-5pm.

I don't know the name of it, but it is the parking lot before you get to the dam. There is a fairly large hole just downstream from it. It has that island that the stream splits and goes behind. There is a rocky dam that stretches across the river at the base of the big pool.
Members TheTugistheDrug Posted January 16, 2012 Author Members Posted January 16, 2012 Not sure I know the name of it either? I was in the same area just upstream. Do you know if anyone is catching any big fish at the zoned area by the gravel pit? Probably the biggest fish we caught was about 15 inches.
Members SteveA Posted January 16, 2012 Members Posted January 16, 2012 No haven't heard about anyone fishing down there, today was the first day I've been at lir since Oct. Glad to see it is clear finally! I must say that today was probably the best day I've had in awhile, maybe best day ever? no big fish best was probably 15 or 16 inches, but caught close to 40, lots of fun!
OKFlyFisher44 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Not gonna catch very many big fish on the LIR, especially after the floods and the scorching summer we had. ODWC has been loading the river up with stockers as well. I have caught a handful of 18"-20" over the past few years and most of those fish came further downstream. Glad to hear the river is back in good shape though. Might try to make my return to the "local waters" this Sunday afternoon to get a warm up before our White River trip. Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
JCWolfe Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 OWD put a 1000 bigger fish in the river in June. Biggest I caught was a 20" bow. My son in law and I caught a lot of bigger than average stockers in June but they are all probably dead with the fish kill we had in September. The biggest I've caught since stocking was restarted in November is 15". Maybe we will get lucky and they will stock some more big fish. Okiemountaineer
