I was wondering if anyone knows of places that we can access docks either by permission or pay for the day. I had to sell my boat last fall and was hoping to still get a chance to take my kids out there to catch a few crappies. I have heard rumors that there are lodges that will grant you access for a fee and was wondering if anyone had any more info on this or not. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advace.

If you really want to have a good chance to get into some good crappie you need to go over to the Alhonna Resort which sets down on the end of Horseshoe Bend pkwy past the Four Seasons. They have a website that you can check out just look up Alhonna Resort. It's $5 to fish from sun up to past sun down. Have enclosed dock as well as others and all are bedded. If you read the "Fishing report 1/14" post below your post that is how we did this last Saturday and how we have been doing all year long.Good luck!

Thank you both for your reply. That helped me out a bunch. My 4 year old loves to fish and I'm really wanting to get her on some crappies and get the year started right. If either one of you see a really ugly dude walking around the docks with a beautiful little 4 year old toting a princess fishing pole, introduce yourself so I can thank you in person. (the princess pole is mine, she has a G-Loomis ultra light) Take care gentlemen and tight lines.

^I know you didn't mean to, but the fatherly way in which you just described your fishing adventure with your daughter and your humbleness in thanking the fellas that gave you the insight on crappie fishing was very touching.

I hope you and your daughter have a blast out there. Having just become a father last year, I can't wait to take my little one fishing for the first time. His mother has already outfitted him with a pretty nice Batman rig.

Tom,

I have two daughters. I missed both of their births due to situations beyond my control with my current job. I cant vow to always be their for them, but I will never take for granted the time I do have. Enjoy your child, his innocence will bring a smile to your face on the worst of days. And for what its worth teach and pass on the outdoor tradition that we grew up with they will become better people because of it. I wish you the best with your son and thank you for your kind words.

It just get"s better. I have my first grandson comming in April, Won't be buying a snoopy pole or any other kid rig. I will never forget the day I gave that 202 a toss into the lake because it was a piece of junk. For a little more get a diawa or johnson with the large opening for the line and a decent drag. Save some money on the pole if you must but don't start a new fisherman on a rig you can't make work yourself. Personally, I can't wait for my grandson to arrive. Do you think it's too soon to go ahead an get him a pole now?
