RSBreth Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 In other news I am getting a kayak next week, should have it outfitted and ready to go by march! Then you're ready to roll. Lots of good Smallmouth water close to home with a solo watercraft. And Spring's almost here.
Fishslayer88 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 i live a stones throw away from the james and i have fished it for 14 years i also guided it for awhile until school got in the way i have fished all over the country and i honestly would not trade the james river for any place i have ever fished as for not having large smallmouth in the lower james i have personally caught several 18 inch smallies and my record is 23 inches. i worked at two canoe rentals in galena while i was in high school Y bridge canoe rental and james river outfitters in my opinion J.R.O. is the better of the two rentals (good people, prices and nice boats) the best float for your money would be cox ford to galena its an 11.4 mi float you leave your car at their gated campground and you can take as long as you want, Crane creek dumps into the james about 3 miles below Cox, Crane creek has a good population of wild rainbows (catch and release only) Here is the number and url for J.R.O. 417-357-6443 Home: 417-357-6447 cell:417-830-1344 http://www.jamesriveroutfitters.com/
