For months now I have been reading about all of those who streamer fish. I myself have not tried this but want to try it desperately. My question to anyone that can help is... What size rod, lines, etc. do I need to be using. I generally fly fish with a 9' #5 rod and like it a lot but I am sure it would be a little to flimsy for some of the larger streamers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeremy

The only thing about streamers... is the weight..

you can throw a size 2 unweighted streamer on a 5wt... I do...

but when you start talk.. sculpins with leads eyes... cone head woolies for deep water with extra weight... thats when you want to look into 7 and 8wts... and if your fishing alot at night.. and the wind starts blow 15,20,30 mph... thats when you really want the heavier rods...

but if your looking at fishing a gray ghost, a standard wooly (size 8) muddlers minnows.. ect, then 5 and 6 wts should work ok... but go heavier on the line... instead of 6 and 7x tippts and leaders... I use a 6 to 10lbs maxima fishing line... but Im useally fishing in the dark.. and the heavier line really does help...

If you need any good tip (about night fishing) go ahead a give me a call.. or e-mail me your phone number and I'll call you (417)-779-8061 home phone)

Thanks for the help Leonard, I was kinda hoping this rod might double for a good night rod so I will definitely take your advise into consideration.

Maybe we can get together one night and I can learn a thing or two about night fishing. I usually get off about midnight on wed. maybe we could go down after that. Feel free to give me a call 417-880-4349

Thanks,

I agree with Leonard. Your rod should be fine for what you want to do. Just go down in leader and tippet size. I use 1 to 3 x, or like he says just staight 6 to 10 lb mono direct to the fly line. I do the same when fly rodding for bass....Dano
