The Royals just put in the largest in stadium solar array in major league baseball. I think these small individual arrays are the future of renewable resources in this country and this is a small step that will help educate the public, if they ever get a team that will put butts in the seats.

While I'm not fan of the solar farms, rooftop panels only take up space already in use by man. If they ever get them priced where they should be they could have real impact.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Trouble is it is really hard to get very much out of it. This is only 28.8kw, enough to run about a 35hp motor while the sun is shining. I just read this

Yankee Stadium Green Initiatives

  • nyy_recycle_logo_250x235.gif

The Yankees are committed to helping promote a sustainable environment and have implemented many green initiatives at Yankee Stadium.

    • Renewable Energy

In March 2009, Yankee Stadium purchased over 33 million kilowatt-hours in renewable energy certificates (RECs) - meeting 100% of the stadium's purchased electricity usage for the next two years.
    • so that would be over 15,000,000 kwhrs per year. If the Royals' stadium has even half the usage of Yankee Stadium, that would be 7,500,000 and 36,000kwhr would be less than 1% of their total load.

I think the negativity is the problem, we can always say it's not enough but this is the equivalent of power 4 homes for an entire year, not much in the grand scheme of things but at least they are trying, if every big business would put an array on their roofs (where doable) we really might see a difference.

As far as the Spankees go, proud of them for what they are doing, but I wish they would also add some panels which will produce free power for decades.

I wasn't trying to be critical of you Justin, I just didn't know if you realized how small 36000kwhr was in relation to what a stadium that size used.

Didn't feel you were being critical of me and I fully realize it won't cover much, but at least it is taking advantage of some spare room and will hopefully do something to educate the fans that suffer through a game.

I agree it's a good use of an area few ever see.

Solor panels aren't that hard to make, time consuming, but not dificult or that expensive in comparison to commercial units.
