Hey guys, this is my first time starting a thread...I am a new user to the forum here and have really enjoyed reading up on everything. This past Christmas my wife got me a 2 person fishing kyak, and am pumped to take it out. My queston comes about Springfield Lake. Now I have lived and grown up in Nixa all my life and I am pretty familar with the usually bank locations at springfield lake but I am curious to know what is the lake as a whole like? Are the spawning periods the same or similar to the Rock for example? eariler or later? With gas going up I have a feeling the kyak is going to be used more than the boat at times this year so I was just trying to learn a little bit more. I also am interested in fishing Fellows and Mcdaniel. Any thoughts on those lakes? When I start out, should I fish more lake stuff or river stuff? types of fish doesnt matter..I usually always have stuff for white, bass, catfish etc in the tackle box. Any info about either of the lakes would be greatly appriciated

i have not fished spawning period. Springfield lake is one of a kind. one day i have found fish the next nothing. you can catch crappie and then they disappear. main lake fish around brush and weeds. river around the banks. i have not fished in the winter much but hopefully i will get out soon to see.

I am fairly new to this lake as well. I fished it really hard last summer and fall but never ventured out to try anything new when it comes to lures and what works. Ive seen many people fish on the river part but not sure what they use. A lot of people fish the main channel where the river starts to open up into the main lake. They use a lot of cranks and spinners with some success. Hope any of this help and mayb ill see you out there sometime. Goodluck.

Hey thanks guys, I remember about a year or so ago hearing that the MDC went through and was shocking the water for some research and found mulitple fish pushing high weight numbers, I have even heard that the potential next state record could come out of there....I am not sold on that but I havent really fished the lake for bass or crappie mostly I just go out for some catfish, carp, or gar just the fun. But Im anixous to get out and try some things, I really think trial and error are going to be the best bet but I really do appriciate the thoughts and replies!!

Could be wrong but the spawn starts a little earlier than most lakes due to the warm water. I say any day now. You can see 3-5lb females during the spawn. Never seen a record looking monster though.

the spawn will be about the same time of year as the rock, probably around mid april. Now down by the power plant it will be ealier, but i usually just fish the river. I have seen some huge beds up the river. They had to have been made an absalute giant bass. Check all the back water areas up the river, above the 65 bridge. I usually throw a horney toad or a senko. Spinner baits will often work well that time of year too. There are a couple of backwater areas that you can barley fit a yack through, but they open up once you get back into them.

You can fish fellows out of the kyack, but you cant put one on mcdanials. If you could the fishing would be out of this world

why cant you at Mcdanials? just curious, very intersesting...thanks for the updates

Its owned by city util. And they just have restrictions, no boats allowed. Its crapy the fishing on that lake is unreal even from the bank sometimes
