Members hog_wild Posted February 14, 2012 Author Members Posted February 14, 2012 well dang it guys, I didnt start a post asking where cant I fish with my kyak haha side note, where does everyone think the best fishing is on springfield lake? between the dam and marina? between marina and 65 bridge, or 65 bridge on up? I was considering taking a float from 65 bridge to the marina for test ride when the it warms up in the next couple weeks. Also I have heard people talk of a backwater run off below the dam that is good for smallies and such. Is that section connected to the river or almost a separate pond like structure? on google maps is looks like a pond almost. Just curious, may haave to go exploring a bit... Coach B

Guest csfishinfool Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 The spillway over the darn is the James River. Its not a sideshoot or anything like that, that is the main river. I like the fishing above/ or around the 65 bridge. I have never really had much luck on the Main part of the lake. As for the river below the lake. This fishing is relly good down there. I have caught a couple of smallie over 15 inches down there. And last winter i caught a Mean mouth ( spotted bass/ smallmouth hybrid) that was over three pounds. My best areas are the back waters like i mentioned. It nothing to go back in those around spring time and catch 20-30 bass in a day. And a few of those could be really big fish. The best place around here to put that kyack on would be IMO linden lure lake. You have to climb a spillway with the yak, but its perfectly leagal and there are some really really big fish in that lake. As well as some really nice smallmouth. The water is super clear, and you can see some of the fish before you catch them. Its a really sweet place to fish. Just watch out for the locals down there. Some weird people hang out down there in the summer time.
emjay Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Fishing is good so get out there. Was up by 65 bridge and couldnt buy a bite. Water was clear as glass but I could only see suckers roaming around. Then headed over to do some bank fishing by the outlet and man...seemed like everyone was catching something. Worms, jerks, A-rigs, etc, the bass were active.
