Members motexan Posted February 24, 2012 Members Posted February 24, 2012 I went out twice this week to Splfd. Lake with some success. As for the A-Rig, I was able to catch some fish on it. Only caught one using 5 swim baits, then I replace the two dummy ones for gold willow leaf blades and had more hook ups. I used 4" swim baits and I think 3" would work better, I had several short strikes. Fished it mostly in the channel and not the main lake. It definitely is a chore to cast it for long periods at a time. I recommend a back up just to give your arm a rest. I was able to catch some on top with a Spook early in the am. The most successful lure for me was still a 3" s. & p. grub on a 3/8 oz jig hook. I also was able to pull some out of cover from over hanging trees using a shaky head. Was told by a Crappie fisher that they're bellies are soft and filling up with eggs and should be spawing soon.
