Seems everytime I can go (mostly weekends) there is something that comes up, and this weekend it is the stinking weather. Why is that I wonder? Oh well, gonna hit the water tomorrow in hopes to get my line pulled, but if the fish wont bite, I will certainly put my time to good use graphing some new area's. I seen Bill's report that 4-12 fish a day with 1-2 keepers would be a good day and that would certainly work for me. I plan to fish from the Knob to pt 16 trying some new stuff. It may be bad timing to try to learn some things, but I can at least graph some area's, GPS structure, and have a game plan for future trips. Any idea's or suggestions is appreciated. I prefer the football jig for deep water if that helps for tips. Thanks-Dale

I haven't seen much posted on it but I would grab a tub of night crawlers and take with. When things get real tough I'll put a crawler on the drop shot rig near the bridge piers. I'll catch a few keepers over the course of the day and usually have decent numbers fising. You may also find some nice cats.

Dale,

If you're gonna be fishing around Shell Knob, I'll have to tell you of the most productful Knob stop I've had lately. I caught 3 Keepers here last weekend at a time when all the pro's were struggling to boat 2-3 fish... it's been pretty consistent needless to say.

Location: Right in front of Windsor Bay (next to the island where they shoot fireworks off for Shell Knob) there is a large Gravel flat with a text book channel edge running 25-35' alond side it. You need to graph over the flat directly to the NE of the bay opening and find how the gravel makes some bowls and then out further in the middle of the lake dumps off into the river channel. Ealry in the morning for a short time fish can be found almost anywhere on the flats especially if they're busting topwater, but later throughout the day, I'll run my boat down the channel/flat edge and catch quite a few each time I stop there. Caught most fish there on a 7/16oz Eakins Texas Craw w/ Yum Wtrm/Rd craw pappy trailer or a Zoom Finesse worm usually watermelon candy. The big jig has been bringing in the bigger bites.

That and make sure you spend some time graphing all the deep main lake humps north of Pt. 19 on the western side of the lake. I mean way off the banks too, I must have seen at least a dozen or more pros at a time set up on something in that stretch of bank. And they were way off the banks sometimes so don't be shy.

Anyhow wish I could be out there reguardless of the weather.. Duties call.

Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Fishing the famous Rock. Well I was supposed to have a club tournament last night (fri) but seeing how the weather played out it was cancelled. But there is good news. I was out pre-fishing Tuesday after I got out of classes and work, I hit the rock around 6 or so and it was somewhat windy but that didn’t stop me. I was the only one on the water fishing the main lake between the dam and 86 bridge. I hit a couple of my favorite spots with no success fishing deep drop shotting structure and throwing the shakey head with a finesse worm. Well right before dark I hit one last spot I could think of trying to change the mood I was in, frustrated of course I pulled up on a bluff edge point that turned to a flat with a decent drop off from the flat. Along with pre-fishing for the tournament, I was also wanting to try out my new Falcon spinning rod, will within a couple cast I was on some fish. 1 fish, 2 fish, 3 fish, and more. I caught a couple keepers within 20 mins couple goggle eye and right before I was ready to head out I said the famous last words " Last cast" well to my surprise this guy was on the other end and the Falcon rod struck again. I didn’t have my digital camera but I didn’t have my phone so the pics aren’t great but it weighed out at 3 1/2 lbs and I thought that was good enough for the night. Then last night between the storms at 5 and 7 me and my partner went fishing anyways. We went back caught a couple keepers and went to another spot catching one more. same type of structure. Good Luck guys. Ill be out again tomorrow.

Well my pics wont attach some error. Ill talk to Phil and get them up in a while.

Fished today up the James--it was tough. Two of us managed 13 fish but only one keeper which went 4 1/2 lbs. We threw about everything a man could possible throw. There were a few guys up there fishing the Central Pro-Am and they seemed to be doing a lot of running as well. Hopefully another week of cooler temps will help speed that spinnerbait bite up!!!

Got out late due to watching BASS on ESPN and was waiting to see just what the weather might do. Started at the Knob about noon and ran towards Baxter to fish my way back. Stopped off at one of my favorite spots (sadly it is everyones favorite it seems) and right off the bat I mark fish and for the 1st time ever, I dropped the shakey head right down, watched a fish eat it on the graph. It was really cool. I cought 2 more shorts there before it shut down, then I went to pt 16 and found a couple humps and spent most of the day graphing some area's. I found a hump in Red Barn, not sure if it is the one Ike was on because I show there could be 2-3 in there, but I marked it and went on. No fish showed on a lot of the humps. My last spot I marked a lot of spots, near Campbell Pt but could not get any takers. That's pretty much how it went for me, just got back in the door. Later. Dale

I cant stand it any longer either. I am hitting the rock hard this weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions around the Indian Pt. area or moving toward the dam?

went out fishing on saturday. Fished some humps around joe bald launch area. Had about 7 bites, but only caught two. One was about 16.5in and the other was 14.5. Had trouble getting the hook set down. Do you guys set the hook right when you feel the first nible or do you wait? seemed like the fish were suspended in 60 ft of water at about 40ft. Caught mine on a purple drop shot worm.

I went out Saturday on the Rock, my first time out there since May, usually I fish other bodies of water that I am more familiar with. It was my first go round with drop shoting and deep water bassin', I caught 6 fish total in 5 hrs, 2 of which were keeps and one short, but hefty fish. I found the tactic to be easier than expected and will be doing more and more of it. The recent Bassmaster's show on ESPN really fit the peices together for me on how it is done.
