timsfly Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Water is still in great shape, it is clearing very fast, the dry fly fishing has been very good again. It has been so warm for so long it seems the insects aren't sure of the time of the season, we are seeing a bunch of ants beetles and even seeing some small hoppers already, it is is like june in april. We caught trout all last week on dries and it is just getting better everyday, caddis, blue wing olives, beetles, ants, hoppers, renegades, wulff style dries, stimulators, and even on some big lt. cahills. Nymphs are still working very well, the usual stuff, pheasant tails, burlaps, sow bugs, zebra midges, copper johns, small prince nymphs, and soft hackles are all working very well, a little more lead on the leader really helps right now, the level of the water is down, but we still have a good flow, so one more #4 shot will help right now. Y2K, glo-bugs, san juan worms and chamois worms are all working very well, big woollybuggers in the morning, and smaller buggers in the afternoon, I've been doing best with olive, and dk brown buggers. If you are going to use a spinning rod, then spinners in the morning are good,(30 minute wonders) in brown, black, and olive, and white have been good colors. Plastic worms in orange, white, cheese yellow, pink, and orange/white have been good colors. Plastic eggs in white, flo. yellow, hatch brown, and flo. yellow have all been good this past week. Marabou jigs are always a good choice, olive, white, black/yellow, olive/black, and pink/white have all been good all week, the micro jig in white, tan or olive have all been good. In zone 3 power bait paste in yellow, or red/white/blue have all been good, corn and night crawlers have also been working, water is still falling and at the moment you can still get away with a good 4lb line, no flo. lines but 2 or 3 will work even better, in a week or two the water will be completely clear in a few weeks and we will need 2 or 3 lb line, good luck on the water, this week Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
