Brian Sloss Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Took a couple of St. Louis guys (Roger and Ted) fishing in the drift boat Friday and the fishing was fantastic. Too many fish hooked to keep track of. They caught most of their fish on stoneflies, Don's Crawdads, and eggs most of all. They fished deep all day and the deep water on the backside of all the islands was most productive. I don't know what else to say about the day except the fishing is red hot! Roger and Ted were fun to hang out with and a good time was had by all. The Sat trip was unfortunately rained out and the water is on the rise. The lower river around 142 has flooded, but the upper remains ok, but still coming up and I don't know how high it will crest. The Spring river (just south of here) actually had a drowning they were pulling people off the river last night. The Eleven Point flows into the Spring, so that may back up the Eleven Point and cause high waters tomarrow. We will see. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Brian Sloss Posted September 24, 2006 Author Posted September 24, 2006 The water has actually crested and is currently only about 6-7 inches above normal, though plenty off color. Should clear in a couple days though. Surprising, I've seen less rain do more damage. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
BrianK Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 hey brian- looking at coming down this wknd but will be staying down at Riverton with a large group from church. I'd rather come up to the trout water but have been wanting to hit the stretch from Riverton down to 142 for some smallies. will fish on Friday. Has Ryan (or anyone)been down there lately? Any recent reports? From previous posts, sounds like he makes it down there more than you do. Will be interesting to see what the water conditions are like by this wknd. I may need come upstream anyway for clearer water. I'll post report. Just curious, did the MDC stock downstream from Greer again this yr? brian
snap Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 ...the river was stocked below Greer this year. I witnessed and talked with MDC prior to Memorial Day and they stocked lots of fish. I am sure Brian has a better idea of the numbers and any recent stockings.
Brian Sloss Posted September 26, 2006 Author Posted September 26, 2006 They recently stocked below Greer and the fishing will be awesome from Greer to Turner for a while. They have not stocked Turner to Riverton this month because of gigging season, but they put more trout in this summer than in the past and there are still plenty of trout (see twosets report). The last report I got below Riverton was a couple weeks ago and the smallies were good, but not great. We flooded bad below around 142 last weekend, so I don't know how the water will be below Fredrick creek on that stretch. Remember that Greer to Turner is Blue ribbon, so know the regs. We want those fish to grow everyone. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
twosets Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Dear Brian K I think that it would be Ryan's opinion that fishing would be great after the water clears and comes down later this week. He thinks that with high water the fish are not feeding but are focused on holding in the river. When the water is back to normal, they should be very hungry. Good luck and let us know how you do. BrianK Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I hope you're right and will let you know. I've not been on that stretch. Anywhere to take out before 142?? bk
twosets Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I floated from Whitten to Riverton and did not see any take out access between, but maybe some one with more experiance could tell you. I think that Brian and Ryan are salmon fishing as of today. "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Brian Sloss Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Leaving for salmon on Sat. night. Between 160 and 142, there are no other take outs, but Fredick enters in the last 1.5 miles out of 9. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
