timsfly Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Roaring River is still fishing very good, the water is dropping and clearing. The dry fly fishing is very good, beetles, ants, hoppers, yes hoppers, elk hair caddis, blue wing olives, adams, lt. cahills in the evening, and griffiths gnats everyday, lots of midge activity. Zebra midges are still very good, black, red, gray, olive and brown have been good, pheasant tails, sow bugs, copper johns, hares ears and brassies have all been fishing well. Olive buggers, black buggers and tan buggers have all been good, san juan worms, glo-balls, Y2K bugs, thread jigs and small grubs have all been working well. 7X leaders, for dries, and 6X for nymphs have been good. I'm using 9' leaders most of the time. The trout are of a decent size right now, the hatchery has been putting in an average of 14" fish the past week, and I hope it continues. I've seen a few good fish caught on soft hackles and prince nymphs this week. A few lunkers are still showing up, had an 8lb and a 7lb this week and a few 3lb trout were caught this week. Zone 3 is looking good, lots of nice limits are coming out of zone 3, mostly around the dam area. Good luck on the river this week, call for water conditions if you want, 417-847-4956 Water is clearing and moderat flow, it LOOKS GOOD Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
