Fished Fellows Today

I grew up in Fair Grove and have always fished Fellows here and there. Problem is the boat I have now is to too big for regs on fellows(hp) so I have to use my dad’s canoe with the 4.5 hp on the back. They live not even 200 yards from the entrance but anyways I went out today in search for some bass. Conditions weren’t the best for the canoe the north wind blew me off my fish. Not like standing in my boat with my foot control trolling motor. But I ended up finding some bass off of brush piles near the bank throwing a green pumpkin Jig along with PB&J jig. They were eager for it as soon as it fell near the brush bam they were on. I plan on hitting it a little more when I get a chance to get home on the weekend. since I live down here on Table Rock. I’m also interested on any info about lake Springfield and those Lilly pads or weed beds I see from Hwy 65 and luck pulling bass from there? Good Luck fishing guys.

Have you ever cought or do you know anyone who has caught a muskie on Fellows? I hear several people catch them in the spring when they are fishing for largemouth with spinnerbaits.

Yes my buddies have caught some that way. there were 3 or 4 boats trolling for muskie today actually. Fellows is know for having very nice size muskie for the area not many people know but they are there. In the spring when the water is up they catch them in the flooded weeds and timber on spinnerbaits.

I will try to find some more info and keep you posted.

I've tried fishing there, but never had any luck from the shore. I always wanted to catch a muskie, but never did. It was sure fun trying though.

Granted Muskie are the fish of 10,000 casts, but there are some nice ones in there. MDC started the muskie program at Fellows in 96 so they have had some time to grow.

Is it an ongoing program, or has it been abandoned?

My Son lives in Fair Grove and both he and and my grandson have caught Bass over 8# in a "pond" there.

Well I hit Fellows again with a buddy. Got on the water at 7 looked for a top water bite no luck. one short fish on a brush pile near the weed beds. Around 11 we were fishing a wind blown bank on the south arm and I hooked into this 4lb largemouth on a shaky head with a zoom finess worm watermelon red flake. no deeper than 10' of water. damsel did they say why they picked Fellows? Does it posses some unique feature, or was it a random pick because of its size and proximity to Pomme?

I usually fish Fellows heavily in the spring for crappie and have spoke with several fisheries folks that I run into there that run MDC nets at that time. They constantly catch muskies 40+ inches. My son caught a small one last year while we were crappie fishing but I have seen pics and heard of many people catching them in the spring. I think I will stick to my crappie and bass fishing there though.
