Members AJ Brown Posted April 10, 2012 Members Posted April 10, 2012 We floated from Delaware Town to Shelvin Rock on Sunday - and noticed loads of dead fish. They were floating in slow pools, near brush piles, and on the edge of the bank. Mostly catfish and suckers. Anyone have any idea what's going on with the river?

vonreed Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I seen a dead sucker floating today by the new bridge on the Finley just above the James. Maybe it is part of the kill you seen. No, it didn't have any gig marks on it, lol.
Members AJ Brown Posted April 11, 2012 Author Members Posted April 11, 2012 I guess I hadn't thought about gigging. It really might be the culprit...

Wayne SW/MO Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 did you report it to MDC? Yes. I doubt that it is giggers. They fact that it is mostly small bottom feeders could be a sign of an illegal dump. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members kyled Posted April 11, 2012 Members Posted April 11, 2012 I put in at Blunks Monday night and saw a few dead suckers with no gig marks and several suckers that just looked really sick swimming up at the surface. I have no idea what is going on with them though.
Justin Spencer Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Saw some sick suckers at the surface on bryant creek the other day, looked to have skin infections or a fungus of some kind. vonreed Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Maybe this abnormally warm spring we've had has contributed to some kind of virus or something to make these fish be dying like this, Obviously it's not just one river that is having suckers dying now.
