Members Dollar Bill Posted April 11, 2012 Members Posted April 11, 2012 Back to High Point today. Much less traffic than yesterday. I was wondering if they knew something I didn't! Got a late start again, put in around 10:30. Thought I'd go sack up another limit of crappie then try to find some walleys. Not so fast bucko... That NE wind was screwing up my primary honey hole and after about 3 hours and 8 keepers I gave up on em. Could only come up with one short eye too. By then the wind layed a little and the bass turned on. Must have caught 30 or so with 3 barely keepers. I did have a nice 3 pounder jump off near the boat. In fact all the bass were crazy today with the jumping! I've never seen anything like it. They were mostly caught on the senko worm up on the bank to about 8 feet. The water around Cedar Ridge is very clear with visibility to 8 foot! I think it helped them see the wacky worm as it doesn't make much vibration. No sign of any of the fish I caught doing any nesting, no bloody tails or anything but I wasn't really fishing spawning banks. Good luck and be safe. bill Is this fun or what!
Nwtf gobbler Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Bill it sound like you still did better than we did. My brother in law and I put in at CC about 5pm and fished Springfield cove first. Found out that the trolling motor battery was almost dead so that definitely didn't help any. Caught 5 short crappie in the cove. Finally drifted our way to the back of the cove and the bass were stacked in there. Caught 5 with 1 keeper on 5 casts. Finally moved to another cove right before dark and fished a gravel flat side in 3 fow and caught 15 crappie right away, with half being keepers. All males. Bass were stacked in there too.
Members Dollar Bill Posted April 11, 2012 Author Members Posted April 11, 2012 For a 3 hour trip it sounds like you hit em pretty good! I need to find some spots to fish shallow like that. I know they must be getting close! This is sure a weird and wonderful spring we're having... Don't think the turkey hunting will be very productive though. By the time I get to go in week 2 you won't be able to see 10 yards! Is this fun or what!
Nwtf gobbler Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Thats what I am afraid of too. May have to hunt out of tree stands just to see them. Lol. Did hear several gobbles last night though right before dark. I'm taking my wife hunting Monday and then we have an afternoon crappie trip scheduled with Les Jarmin. Should be a fun day.
kwall Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Turkey? Hey NWTF, Can a guy hunt around the lake anywhere , wonder if anybodys been hearing them while fishing ?
Nwtf gobbler Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Kwall, to the best of my knowledge all of the land Along the lake is either owned by the Corps or MDC. With the exception of state park and campgrounds, i believe it is pretty much all open to hunting. I heard several gobbling while fishing last night in the CC area.
zarraspook Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Kwall... This link will take you to the Stockton map with boundies ... there a place to "click to enlarge" ... It shows how much land around Stockton is for hunting.... http://www.stocktonlake.com/pages/map "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
