Drove down to the Dam from KC through rain and thunderstorms. Got to the Dam, it was raining and overcast. Topwater bite was off the hook. (Well, I should say it was good when I got there, but everyone said it was crazy good before I got there). Stringers looked like they were not exagerating. Fished the Gate side (East). Running negligible water through the turbines. They were hitting chart.or white spooks, hog sticks, Blue and Silver Ba Donk a Donk (I think that is what it is called). I did not have any small spooks in white or chart. Threw some spooks and caught some whites. Threw a small Vixen walk the dog bait and caught a few (Black and Silver). Caught an 8lb on a Bone Large Vixen walk the dog bait. THen my buddy showed up with live shad and I thought it was going to be on like donkey kong. WRONG!!!!!. We caught some fish on the shad, but it was not spectacular. It may have been that the live shad we had were smaller than what they were feeding on. All in all a good day.

Several people I talked to said Saturday was crazy good.

Fishing in the rain and nasty conditions was much better than when it cleared off.

THe fishing was pretty good all down the gate side from the fence down towards the Handicap dock. I don't know how they were doing on the turbine (west) side, but there were people over there.

I want to get up there, but the gas prices are killin' me!

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I used to go twice a week up there, now I haven't been in almost 2 years. I want to badly, just can't justify spending that much in gas to go.

Cost my Silverado $30 to go back and forth from Springfield. Well worth it when the bite is on, especially topwater IMO.

I won't argue the worth it, IF the hybrids are up along with their cousins the whites. But one never knows. :D My son and g-kids were there a couple of weeks ago and limited out on crappie in the old channel, and he doesn't keep the barely's.

Just spent the afternoon up there today (4/16). Big hybrids are on the prowl. Almost every stringer had big fishes on them. Caught one (4-5lbs est.) and lost two more big ones due to bad hookups. Get up there while you can. Bite was best in late afternoon but sundown topwater didn't happen like I hoped. Had times where I had fish on cast after cast, a few times just as the lure hit the water. Was fishing the east side. Everything seemed to work but I was using something outside the box from everyone.
