About a month ago, a buddy and I drove up to Michigan to pick my new boat (I'm still so excited that my wife was on board with such a purchase, she's awesome!). After the fast trip to Michigan and back, I spent the next month waiting to get it in the water. Time flew by, and the family headed off to take it on its maiden voyage on the lower Current River at Two Rivers. The float was awesome and the family loved the boat, however we were unable to put a fish in the boat.

The following weekend (last weekend) I loaded back up and headed for the North Fork of the White. I felt pretty confident that out of 5 guys going, we should definitely get some fish in the new boat (along with a few scratches). Fishing on Friday and Saturday was tough but still a lot of fun and as always the NFOW rainbows were willing to take most of the nymphs you threw at them. I, however, was very gratified with my first 20+ Brown from this fishery, after several trips over the past 4 years fishing the NFOW.

Big thanks to Justin and Amy for the shuttles, and for putting up with our drunkenness. I hope we left the Riverhouse in good order.

Eric

That is a sweet drift ..... One questions though...... have you been able to convince your wife to park her car in the driveway ?

Seriously ... nothing better than being on the river with family and friends.

Actually, after a bit of re-organizing I was able to fit her car back in the garage with a couple feet of clearance. I don't think I could have convinced her to let me have the whole garage.

Nice brown! Nice Clacka! Looks like the river was murky! Thanks for the report

Eric, Awesome fish and what a way to christen the boat! I heard from a mutual friend about the brown! Cool stuff. On a side note when I lived in Soulard years ago I had a lot of great times at Hammerstones!

Luckily the first fish in that beautiful boat was a nice healthy wild rainbow as opposed to that stocker brown Eric caught. Ha! My jealousy shows. We did have a tough weekend fishing but still put some decent fish in the boat overall. The sheer number of stonefly adults, nymphs and shucks we saw would have made you think the fish would be going crazy, but they were pretty finicky for us. Thanks again to Justin and Amy at Sunburst. They were awesome as usual. I highly recommend Sunburst as a base camp for your NFOW adventures. Justin, I hope you all enjoyed the bacon. As far as that sweet skiff Eric picked up goes, we did the Dead Drift Yatch Club for a year to start figuring out the whole drift boat thing, and I really would suggest it to anyone considering buying a boat or just wanting to learn a really awesome way to fish the river. We took the Headhunter and the Hyde this weekend and they were both great. If Matt or Justin from Topeka are out there it sure would be great if you posted a picture of that amazing rainbow you picked up.

Nice fish and new craft, have you given her a name yet?

No name yet. I'm sure my girls are gonna come up with something though.

Chris, Yep, I talked to Conant when we got back from fishing on Friday night and told him about the Brown, and he was at Hammerstone's. Too funny! Small world man.
