Members whetstone Posted April 24, 2012 Members Posted April 24, 2012 Any creek/river guys having any luck? My usual tactics aren't producing much except a bunch of short smallmouth...
Idylwilde Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Big Piney is great right now all the way from Sand Shoals to Slab Town and more. Bass is good also on top water right now. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
Members whetstone Posted April 26, 2012 Author Members Posted April 26, 2012 Thanks for the tip! I haven't floated that stretch of river in years, it's a little far for a day trip for me. Glad to know they're biting somewhere, that means I just haven't found the right water yet. I'm trying new areas I've never fished before, the upper Osage mainly, and gonna try out the upper Niangua within a week or two.
timinmo Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I don't know about your area but in the streams south of St Louis the goggle-eye are on fire. In the areas I fish, this time of the year, you can hammer the goggle-eye and two months from now you will be hard pressed to catch any. My son and nephew were out yesterday on a local creek/river and caught about an equal mix of goggs and smallmouth. By the time June rolls around if you catch 10% goggle-eye it would be a surprise. I assume it is about their spawning cycle but if you really wanted to exploit a resource it would be pretty easy this time of the year. Tim
G-ROD Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I finally got out & caught one.. -------------------- Mo Smallmouth Hunter Gary
