Lancer09 Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 My articulated patterns look a LOT better than they used to. Plus I made myself buy schlappen.. this is nice, and UV dyed polar chenille is awesome. Enjoy. Before Hand, I went ahead with Schmidt's Mufasa: Here is a dungeon or two: Boogie Man: Circus Peanut: Bottoms Up, unfortunately I could only find larger popper heads so only one is on the rear hook: Fathead.. I know, i forgot the back mallard, but this was the most photogenic fly: Homemade fly box that has been filled in the last two weeks:\
Brian Wise Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 VERY cool!! Great job! Schlalppen is pretty major, and really "fills" the body without adding bulk. It also makes GREAT tails (you will see in the Double Deceiver video) My Youtube Channel
DaddyO Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I'd never really thought about tying an articulated pattern until I started watching Brian's videos. I actually tied my first one the other day. Brian, thanks for taking the intimidation out of tying these patterns. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Brian Wise Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 My pleasure fellas......seriously appreciate the kind words. My Youtube Channel
rfd515 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Another great one, especially if you're not throwing an 8 wt, is Rich Strolis' Knucklehead, although the hooks are pretty pricey. http://vimeo.com/15390959
Brian Wise Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Rich is a stud. One of the first tying videos I ever did was of his "Ice Pick". My Youtube Channel
Lancer09 Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Caught a 22" male rainbow and a 19" female bow tonight on a white circus peanut. This shizz works Yo. I missed a couple fish on the Mufasa, and had two or three pop off fishing a white circus Peanut.

DaddyO Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Brian, OK. I have a few questions here. I noticed in the Ice Pick video that the hook you are using has a down eye. Will the fly run with the hook eye up or will it run with the hook eye down? I feel like it will turn over and run with the eye up, although, I think it would depend on where the weight in that fish head is distributed. If it runs with the eye up, does that mean that the pattern should be flipped and is it supposed to be yellow or white on top? (I know the colors can vary, but, I'm referring to the video) Thanks in advance, your videos really help me. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.

In all seriousness though, I am not 100% sure it would make any difference if you tied an Ice Pick that did flip over. The only action that fly has is jigging so it wont hurt the action at all and it is defenitely not going to make a fish NOT eat because the darker color is on bottom. Now, if it were a fly that had more of a "darting" action then yes, it would matter because then it would mess with the action of the fly and in my eyes that is the main thing about all of these flies.....how they move through the water.
