Seven of us are headed to Truman next Sunday for four days of fishing. We're mainly going to be crappie fishing so if anyone has any suggestions we're all ears. Some of the guys want to try for walleye but I really have no idea where to go. The only place I know if is the flats near KK island. Anybody out there have any ideas for walleye this time of year? We are staying near Long Shoal and will probably be putting in at Long Shoal or Berry Bend.

Downhill:

Check Crappie.com. Go to the Forum section, scroll down to Missouri, click Missouri fishing. A LOT of people will post daily results for crappie. Locations may not be mentioned, but they are good about telling how deep and general locations. Most of the crappie fishing is done dipping jigs or minnows on long (10 - 15) foot poles. You will have a lot of good areas around Long Shoal, I would start at the mouths of the creeks and coves, then check out the channel trees if that doesn't work. The crappie like chartrues (sp?). You should be at prime time for the crappie!! Can't help with the walleye, most of mine are accidents, if the lake level is up, I have caught some on cranks fishing the top of Possum Ridge early and late. This is a long ridge with most of it out of the water unless the lake is up. Hope this gets you in the general ball park, Long Shoal has great camping.

Thanks, Doroger. I have checked out crappie.com before and it is a good resource. We have fished KK island to Berry Bend before but never around Long Shoal so your advice is appreciated. If they happen to be pulling water we'll try some humps and the weir but our main goal is dipping for crappie. Thanks for your reply.

If they are running water try the weir on the face of the dam. They are usually found on the lake side as it comes up from 35 to 18 feet. use your electronics to find the fish and throw a 1/4 oz jig. Lots of fishermen just drop to the bottom bring it up about a foot. Don't be afraid of the crowd, that indicates the bite is on.....if they are generating. Check swpa.gov website foe generation schedule.

Thanks for your reply. I've only fished the weir one time and there were a bunch of boats there but all we caught were small crappie. Do you just deadstick your bait or jig it or cast and retrieve? I see in a few days they're pulling 10,000 cfs through the dam. Is that enough to bring the fish in?
