Stump bumper Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I make mine own but saw this deal and almost worth it just for the cost of the swivels. http://wlure.com/product_info.php?cPath=161&products_id=555 I have ordered from the company before and did receive my order, got some little cranks for $.99 but shipping was like $6. I have nothing to do with this site and if this breaks any rules just delete it .
J-Doc Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I don't think the fish really care if the heads are painted up all pretty like. My buddy makes some with epoxy and he catches fish with them........and they are just wadded up balls of epoxy. Looks like a big ole lead weight. The bait is what catches their eye. :-) Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Stump bumper Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 I use a 3/16" rivet to hold the wires together then shape a fish head (sort of) over the rivet just for looks and you can lock them in a vise and pull with vise grips and not pull them apart. I use a sharpie to add some color and coat with clear finger nail polish to seal them up. By the way, the above post is sold out.
jolicious Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Surevy stakes from Home Depot, the blue epoxy with the white stuff in the middle, and a couple pairs of pliers! J-Doc's right in that they catch fish, but he's also right in that they are U-G-L-Y
Stump bumper Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Surevy stakes from Home Depot, the blue epoxy with the white stuff in the middle, and a couple pairs of pliers! J-Doc's right in that they catch fish, but he's also right in that they are U-G-L-Y I use the wire for hanging pictures from home depot (20 gauge stainless), then crimp together with a rivet, then same blue and white stuff, skipping the rivet has made some wires come loose on me. I have to pass the covering with loctite stuff to the wife to get something looks pretty. Box of 50 rivets are $5 and I use wire cutters to make the crimp. I also saw some wire at Walmart 18 gauge 25 feet for $1.98 I think would work ok. But putting together five pieces of wire and twisting on 5 swivels should never cost $25, but if you got it flaunt it is my motto. Myself I have to squeeze every cent out of every buck that comes my way.
chi0082 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Stump, what type of rivet are you talking about? Which ones exactly? I haven't heard of using a rivet to hold the wires together so I'm quite interested to see how you made yours. I'm trying to make my own too. lol.
Stump bumper Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 The rivet is in two pieces, you take the female end with the round end down and insert a doubled16 in bent wire about half way up. Then you insert the other 3 wires and push the rivet up as far as you can. They are snug now, but take your wire cutters and crimp in 3 places, you will not get them apart now, If this isn't making a mental picture for you, send me a PM with your phone number and if you are near Rogers I will meet you at a coffee shop, you buy coffee and I will make you one so you cam see how it is done. Takes less time then drinking a small coffee, any place but starbucks, their coffee sucks.lol
