bikehikefish Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I might be floating the Jack this coming Saturday, maybe Alley to somewhere. Is Shawnee Creek a decent place to take out and camp, or would I be better off camping driving back to Alley Spring and camping there Saturday night? If anyone if familiar with those two campgrounds, which would be better, i.e. less crowded and fewer yahoos? Any other suggestions? Do I get to Shawnee Creek access from county road 106-211?
Members Spincast Posted May 21, 2012 Members Posted May 21, 2012 I camp at Shawnee Creek every year. It is a primitive site only, meaning there is no water or electric available. There is a vault toilet there. There are many shaded spots for a tent as well. There will probably be others there camping as well. If you want privacy, there is a large gravel bar just past Shawnee Creek in which you could camp on. You are correct on the road for access.
bikehikefish Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 Thanks Spincast, that helps. Primitive is good.

Alley will most likely be packed. You may even have problems with Shawnee because it is relatively small and some of the overflow from Alley (if it is full) will head to Shawnee. I have never had good luck finding a camping spot on a holiday weekend at the National Parks campgrounds. If you really find yourself in a bind - Harvey's Circle B campground has an "Emergency" site that they don't reserve. You may be able to talk yourself in. If you need any further assistance, I may have a trick or two up my sleeve - send me a PM. Good luck and I hope the fishing is excellent. Let me know how it goes.
bikehikefish Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Thanks for the warning about crowds. We changed plans and now we are are going to stretch the float to two days and camp on a gravel bar somewhere.
