Members parsonsles87 Posted May 31, 2012 Members Posted May 31, 2012 i'm from mansfield and was wondering if the stripers have made it up to the dam yet. if so what times are they biting the best?
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The fishery has always been a winter thing, as far as I know. You hear rumors at times, but never see fish in the summer. I believe what few are in the lake come in the winter for the warm water and in the spring for the shad spawn, but they are few and far between. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members parsonsles87 Posted June 1, 2012 Author Members Posted June 1, 2012 they do come in there during the summer, i saw a 55 lb 10 oz hog caught late june last year. and there is a regular summer run. i just dont live close enough to know if it has started yet. i didnt know about the winter event though and would enjoy any other information about it. or if anyone else knows where you can catch stripers from the bank i would love to know. ive caught alot of big hybrids but im kinda new to stripers and would appreciate any info greatly
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Last year the lake was extremely high all summer. It's normal power now. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members parsonsles87 Posted June 1, 2012 Author Members Posted June 1, 2012 i talked to locals while i was there that target stripers below powersite every summer
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Maybe I'm just there at the wrong time of the week, but you would think being down there 2 or 3 times a week I would hear something. I'm simply saying I don't think there is what I would call a "run". I know if the water is high in the winter they hit it hard and get some nice ones. I know there is a good run at Truman dam, has been for decades. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
emjay Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Its always been a low key subject. Its hard to get any word about stripers being up by the dam unless you go down there yourself and talk to the people.
emjay Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Nope, no stripers yet. Was down there the other day, no running water until 8pm. Caught 1 white and 3 bass. Didnt see anybody with striper gear either. Might still be a little early maybe, idk. Lots of 2" shads all along the shorelines with finicky bass right under them.
Members parsonsles87 Posted June 9, 2012 Author Members Posted June 9, 2012 i was there the other day with basically the same results. i tried for stripes but to no avail. if we could ever get some rain something mite happen
dennis boatman Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 ....misread...thought it was about strippers,,, A strike indicator is just a bobber...
