buzzbaitr Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Going down next week to fish with my dad, starting Thursday morning. I've only been to stockton once and never been the boater. We are targeting bass and putting in at orleans, any general advice? Do I need to go south for bass, like sons creek or is there anywhere up north that's any good? We love catching largemouth and smallmouth. Catch and release only. Any advice would ge great!
Nwtf gobbler Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I don't do much fishing that far north, but you should be able to find plenty of bass on chunk rock banks with plastic worms.
buzzbaitr Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 Thanks for the advice. I have followed this site for over a year and am impressed with a lot of what I read on here. I am a novice for sure when it comes to lake fishing so I appreciate any help I can get. I want to make sure dad catches some fish!
Nwtf gobbler Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 There are guys on here that probably catch more quality bass than me, but plastic worms are almost guaranteed to catch lots of fish. I took fishbait3 and Justin Scobee out the other day and we probably caught a dozen or so in about 2 hours.
blue79 Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I do all of my fishing in the Orleans area 3-4 days a week if im not working.I lost my biggest bass ever back behind the sailboats last week. Was using a blue 6inch walleye lure.My lure had 3 treble hooks and it yanked one of the hooks right off when he/she shot out of the water.i was pissed the rest of the day. When you leave the marina follow the no wake buoys straight across to the other little point and ive allways caught smallmouth and largemouth all around that point. If all else fails if you head out of the marina to the main part of the lake follow the straight ridge that is on your right hand side.We put on white crank baits and troll that ridge back and forth in 20-25 fow and allways catch bass, walleye, and crappie. There is allways someone there.Last sat me and another boat was going one way and two other boats were going the other way.I was using a small white crankbait and was catching crappie/walleye and my girlfriends son was using a bigger/deeper diving white crankbait and all he was catching was bass so in that area i would use a deep diver.Last fall when the lake was low we were slaying the bass all around the coves at Orleans with white buzzbaits.Caught alot of nice big bass.Someone told me there was alot of big bass around marinas cause after tournaments all the bass were released at the weigh-ins.Head straight across the lake to the quarry(crabtree cove) just south east of the dam and there is some nice bass lurking around in there early in the morning plus its a good wind break if its windy out.Good luck
buzzbaitr Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 Wow, thanks. That's some good info, I really appreciate it. My dad and I are normally pond and river fisherman, so we are used to catching fish, but last year I joined a bass club and fished my first tournament ever, it was at stockton. As a non boater I am at the mercy of my partner, I decided this year to come to stockton with my dad and see what it was like to have a little more control over my fishing day. There is nothing better than fishing a new lake with my dad and trying to "figure them out" whatever that really means! Thanks for all the input, goodness knows I need it!
