ruthead Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Made our first family trip to Taney last week. There will be many more on the planner in the future! We had a great time flyfishing all day Tuesday, Tuesday night for a couple hours and most all day Wed. Both my boys (12 and 15) caught a lot of fish with the younger one catching his personal best of approx 3 lbs and another one just a little smaller. My wife caught lots of fish and even I caught some too (3 Tuesday night which was really cool!! Didn't know I could cast so good in the dark where no one can see. LOL). We were priviledged enough to get to fish with Brian Shaffer and had a great time. Thanks Brian for taking the time to show us the area and fishing with us. We're all better fly fisherman than before fishing with you. Hate to think how many trips we would have to make to learn what we learned from you in two short days. You know you're having a good time when the boys decided they would rather fish the last day there than go ride the go-carts and hit the strip!! They would rather be stripping flys!!!! ruthead Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Also want to say thanks to Carolyn at River Run Outfitters for the last minute cabin as well as the fishin advice. The cabin was great and the hospitality unmatched. Thanks again!! "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Brian K. Shaffer Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 It was a fun time had by all... but any 18 inch almost 3 pound rainbow is unheard of for most 12 year olds on any waters! Let alone one caught on a 'brand new to them' dry fly ... I was glad to see that both of the boys had what it takes to make it happen... also a rarity if you ask me. Turning you guys onto fishing more terrestrials was my favorite part.... just glad the fish cooperated. Next time you guys come down... you will be much more comfortable on Taneycomo. It was my pleasure! Don - did you figure out some pics to crop yet ? Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
