Members Adam Snodgrass Posted June 29, 2012 Members Posted June 29, 2012 I've heard alot of people say they have tons of luck w/ egg patterns on the Current but haven't had much luck myself. Can you guys tell me what type/size/color egg you normally use here w/ regular success? Thanks, Adam
flyfishmaster Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 dam, I can only speak for myself and friends, but the hook size we use is 16 or 18. We typically only use a few colors: • White • Red • Orange • Peach • Red/White The key to using the egg is keeping on the bottom. You have to have it bouncing off the rocks to get hits. If it is floating higher in the water column, you are just "fishin" not "catchin". I hope this helps you out. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
stlfisher Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I have had the best luck on an egg that is multicolored. Usually, orange, pink, pale yellow, white red combinations work. Solid peach or orange works well at times. I just buy the smallest jig hooks I can find...usually somewhere in 12-16 size and use those for my eggs.
Al Agnew Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 As a flyfisherman, you have to use the correct terminology...they are "fetal emergers", not egg patterns Use small ones, a little smaller than a pea, in clear water, the bigger ones, a little bigger than a pea, if the water is pretty murky. use them in a tandem rig with some kind of regular nymph. Seems like the brighter egg might attract attention, but the fish will often take the nymph. And as FFM said, you gotta keep them on the bottom.
