TSmith Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 When out on the kayak and fished downstream of the RR bridge. Fished the Point and river channel (where the river forks to the park and the the RR bridge. Water was about 87 degrees, and the fish bit my lure once. However, as soon at it turned 10 o clock the fish started biting. Caught 3 keepers and about 4 other smaller LMB on plastic worms with a heavy sinker. I had to keep 2 cause they swallowed the hooks before I even knew they were on. biggest fish was almost 3 lbs and right at 18-19 inches long. I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
OzarkFishman Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 When they get hooked deep like that, you can cut the line as close to the hook as possible and let them swim away. I have to do this sometimes when tube fishing (better gear and line will help, but some days anyone will deep hook fish with plastics). I have read that they have a good chance of surviving, even with a hook in their gullet. Some of the reading says that the hook will be shaken later ... with a quality worm hook, I don't see that happening. At least you will be giving those fish a chance at survival (not that I am against keeping legal fish). Tight lines!
OzarkFishman Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 The best bet would be to cut the hook and slide the hook out (avoiding the barb all together). Been reading a lot of your reports ... seems you are having a great fishing summer!
