Jeff Olson Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Hi guys,I guess I am just anxious and have been waiting to hear of any reports if you guys did fish yesterday the 28th? I have not been fishing tr for walleye since spring as I have been learning bs. but I did try yesterday to try to campare notes. I live by the state park marina so I fished the dam area from 6 am to 11 am ( to many boats out at that time, called it quits ) could not find a walleye, caught 10 bass,lm, k"s & 2 sm. all but 1 were nice fish.( about legal size ) trolled cranks & bb w crawlers in 30 to 40 ft. hope you guys did alot better!!!
powerdive Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 We had 5 boats, 6am to 12pm. Only two boated walleyes. Mr. & Mrs. Hunter 91 had 4 shorts on bouncers and cranks, and Bullitt (don't think he posts here) and his partner had one short and--get this--a beautiful 29.5", 10.2 lb. walleye. Trolling cranks over the channel, 30 feet down over 36 fow. The rest of us caught numbers of bass (duh, go figure) and a couple 14" plus crappies, but the eyes eluded us. Bullitt & Brian had to fizz the big gal and spend some time with her, but she finally kicked tail and swam down, never to be seen again. Hopefully a successful release.
Jeff Olson Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 thanks for the report powerdive! and yes, a very nice fish! and it is great to see a big spawner released!
powerdive Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Hoping Marty will post the photo when he gets time--hint hint, nudge nudge...
Members CMF Posted July 30, 2012 Members Posted July 30, 2012 Um...I would, but Scott sent me a phone photo that morning while they were trying to release the big critter.....I do not have the software or cable to take anything off my cheapo phone. I'll see if Scott will email me the pic and I'll throw it up......Boy it's a big ole toothy critter. Not a great photo, but good enough to see the thickness and length.
Members CMF Posted July 30, 2012 Members Posted July 30, 2012 My handle is supposed to be "Martin" ....lol.....My electricity went off a few days ago, and when I logged back on, I was CMF which is a VERY OLD login name...I may have to email Phil to get my stuff back.....I tried to re-login and it says my email is already being used by another member......arrrggghhhh......dang machines ! LOL

Members BleacherBum28 Posted July 31, 2012 Members Posted July 31, 2012 Does anyone have any insite as to why it seems TR only produces one or two walleye a trip? I am a very beginner walleye fisherman and come to TR once or twice a year. It seems as though dragging crawlers just off the bottom produces, but only one or 2. From everything I understand of this fish, it is a very social fish, and when found, you should be able to pick up a handfull. To the novice, whenver I pick up a walleye, its just one nice fish (well over the limit length). How come you never pick up a few shorts as well as the bohemouth?
powerdive Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 On the other hand, BB28, by reputation bass are not nearly as social, yet you catch about a thousand a day on Table Rock. It's just population dynamics: tons of food, and not many walleyes per acre. You can catch walleyes in bunches out there, but it does seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Thanks to Bullitt, I had my best day of Southern walleye fishing ever right here on Table Rock (and I fish Bull Shoals and Stockton a lot). It was September, we were trolling cranks down deep on a single inside point, and we caught about 25 walleyes with most between 20 and 27 inches. We're seeing a lot more shorts these days. That's a good thing.
