Bassmaster21 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Where are all of the big bass at?!?!?!? I have been fishing for a total of about 15 hours in 3 seperate days and can catch all the 13 inch bass in the world but no keepers. Im not even looking for trophies, just keepers. 15 inch bass. I have thrown smaller crankbaits and finesse worms on points, in timber, shallow water (5ft), deeper water(25ft) and cant find em. Any advice would help.
dennis boatman Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 ...it's August... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Walcrabass Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I can't say for sure because I haven't been able to go for the last few weeks but....... in the past this has worked for me. Big rocks or standing timber in 20 to 35 feet of water. Should be next to deep water and preferrably deep water with current. ( Wind or otherwise.) If they won't bite big stuff then try smaller. As always....Jigs, Craws, Worms, Heavy Spinnerbaits......all fished deep. Use everything you can get your hands on to help the bite, like Craw or Fish Scent. Drag them or Short Hops until you find what they like. Oh Yeah, one other thing, FISH AT NIGHT....LIKE 9:00p.m. TIL 4:00 a.m. Use Fluorescent line and Black Lights. I gotta stop before I get started trembling from Fish Fever!!!!!
Bassmaster21 Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 haha yeah I have night fished my fair share this summre because its been so darn hot. Thanks for the advice. Ive fished a lot of finesse worms so mayb i should try something a little bigger. Ive used 1/4 oz weights. Should i go up to 5/16 or 3/8 to fish deeper water?
Walcrabass Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Bassmaster 21, I hardly ever fish with anything less than 1/2 oz. at Stockton. It helps in the wind and also gives me good contact with the bait. 3/4 oz. or even 1 oz. can be better in deep water. Especially if you are throwing to the bluffs. When that 1 oz. Jig goes screaming towards the bottom in front of the bluff you get a lot of reaction strikes. Be sure to feed line to it and watch for that jump in the line. Set the HOOK!!!!! You would be surprised how many catfish will end up on your line. Big spinnerbaits like 3/4 oz. stay down with the fish better especially when you have a No. 6 Colorado Blade on it like I do. My favorite night color is Black N Red Neon...Spinnerbait, Jig,Worm, Crawdad, or Brush Hog. I am convinced they can see it better. Just one other thing. USE ATTRACTANT SCENTS !!!!!! Cover up scents help but attractant scents taste like food....after all.....that is what they are after!!!!! My 2 cents, Walcrabass
9LB Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I have caught some decent bass in 25 - 30 ft of water on humps. DD22 Norman Chartreuse crankbait or the little N. I have had 0 luck catching nay good fish on any type of plastic. I haven't even tried one in a month. Seems odd they are willing to chase the crankbauit in 90 degree water but it has been best for me.
Bassmaster21 Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 Thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same thing, normally I have good luck in the dog days of summer with slow moving soft plastic stuff. I guess I'll have to give some cranks a try.
