Members dhornick Posted August 15, 2012 Members Posted August 15, 2012 Howdy, I'm new in here and also new to the Buffalo River. We (family of 4) love to float the rivers of the Midwest and have usually floated the Current River in Mid-Southeast Missouri. We're not really fisherman and we are not loud obnoxious partiers. We just like to float. We're not really campers either. On the Current some might have heard of The Landing in Van Buren MO. It's just the setup I'm looking for on the upper Buffalo. A lodge or cabin that is located on the banks of the Buffalo at the take out or exit point. They take you up river to your put in spot and then you float all day and then get out right at your cabin or lodging. Does anyone know of a setup like that on the upper Buffalo? If not what might be the closest thing to it. Also, we like to tube float, all I see regarding the Buffalo is canoe, kayak and rafts????
Members AJ Brown Posted August 18, 2012 Members Posted August 18, 2012 You're right about seeing mostly yaks, canoes and rafts on the Buffalo - especially if you're renting from an outfitter. I'd recommend staying at Gilbert. There are several outfitters that use Gilbert as a take out, and there is at least one outfitter that has cabins about 50 yards up the road off the river. You can be shuttled from Gilbert up to Baker Ford for a decent 5-6 hour float (depending obviously on how often you stop). If you're looking to get out on the water really early in the morning, you could probably make the float from Woolum to Gilbert also, but it would definitely be an all day float.
