Been pretty doggone sick this week, haven't fished at all and been taking a bunch of medication. Anyway, took a look at the forecast tomorrow and saw thunderstorms in the mix. In my experience, I tend to have good days the day before a front rolls in. . . so I went out to a local spot that I haven't fished in a while.

First off, the water is low. I actually had to drive quite a ways further down in the river bottom to get to the river. I fished a few holes on foot, and caught a few, and a large fellow with a penchant for tattoos walked my way with a couple kids in tow. He was a nice guy, but I had to smile a little when I overheard the last part of the conversation with his son

" ... what are you doing? Pick that stuff up! Who do you figure is gonna pick this stuff up if you don't do it? This river don't look this nice cause people throw garbage in it."

Wanted to shake that guys hand.

Anyway, I got in the yak and floated a ways down and caught 4 15"+ fish in two hours, plus a ton of dinks. I got the feeling I could've really slayed em with a bit more time and energy, but it was HOT. Senko was productive , but a green river bug on a shakey head was slaying em today. Big guys sitting behind large structure or riffles in the slack water.

I drove by my boat ramp the other day that was 5 feet out of the water......I don't even know if I could find a ramp to put my boat in right now with these river levels.

Thanks the report......might need to find a canoe.

I haven't seen any useable boat ramps for some time now. Even with my kayak I think I spent as much time walking as paddling yesterday.

UnCivE, have you fished the highway 17 bridge in Waynesville much? I went out this morning and paddled in both directions for quite a ways and found very little water that looked promising. I'm wondering if I should have kept going but it just kept looking worse and I didn't have all day. The hole down from the bridge about 300 yards treated me well for the little time that I had though, I managed a couple really nice fish and quite a few smaller ones.

Same experience as you, I usually fish the Roubidoux (wade) and hit the holes around that area in my kayak. It's mostly frog water, and I've never been super impressed with the fishing.
