The growth rate for rainbows at cow shoals is 0.3 inches a year according to the AG&F. It always covered up with people. Its pretty mossy everywhere in the Little Red. The Dissolved Oxygen has been a real problem this year. I haven't heard any good reports about it all of this year.

ive been on the little red 4 times this year. When it was early in the year it was good fishing and the water wasnt to bad. But as the year went on water levels just got worse and worse. Last time that we were there Greers Ferry Lake was 10ft down i think, and they werent generating very much because of that.

I was over at the Little Red in December. I stopped in the fly shop and inquired about Cow Shoals. He said people were getting into fist fights when one guy would leave the river and come back to find someone in 'His' spot. Funny thing about it, with 50 or 60 cars parked over there, maybe one was from Arkansas. I ended up going to the dam and fishing. I was really depressed by the end of the day. I couldnt find anyone to fight me, and I lucked into a mess-o brookies. They were the only thing that would fight me. Lets see here, I had the river to myself, and I caught some nice fish. I wasnt shoulder to shoulder with some 'out of stater', trying to catch a fish 653 other people had thrown flies at that day. Maybe the game and fish should get themselves a sign like they had in the movie 'Caddyshack', and put Lou down there to enforce the crowd. I wonder if the crowds have left, and if Cow Shoals is going to be the same.

Motor,

You are right on the money. Ten years ago when I lived in Little Rock, the Little Red was only a short drive up the road. It's a great river and there certainly are other places along it to catch some nice browns. To this day I don't understand why they allow that circus to go on at cow shoals. As far as I'm concerned, they ought to ban the fishing there during the spawn and let the browns do their thing. It's funny that cow shoals has become what it has. I remember my dad taking me there in '78. As a yound boy I just sat in the car and watched that crazy old man fish most of that chilly November morning completely undistrubed. Not another soul around. Apparently he went back and told some folks... .My, how the times have changed!
