Brian Sloss Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 For those interested, Construction will be starting Mon morning at Whitten and they will be closing the access starting Sunday evening. They will be building a retaining wall and increasing the size of the access. Should be closed for 4-8 weeks. Kind of a pain that it is starting before Labor Day, but we will deal with it I guess. I have already been asked if they are closing the river more than once. A stupid question I know, but in case you were wondering...no, the river is not closed, just Whitten for a few weeks. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Justin Spencer Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 So they closed the river? Just kidding. "The problem with a politician’s quote on Facebook is you don’t know whether or not they really said it." –Abraham Lincoln Tales of an Ozark Campground Proprietor Dead Drift Fly Shop

Wayne SW/MO Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Increasing the size of the access? To bad they can't increase the size of the river. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
snap Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 ...ask them to work on the turner boat ramp while they are at it.....while the river is closed!!!
Mark Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 So besides the boat ramp, what else are they doing? I understand that they are trying to prohibit the "trailer park" of RVs that congregate there. Are they building specific spots for RVs, building tent campsites, and holding people accountable for RVs and camping in spots reserved for such. It really is a mad house around there on weekends. But I have always thought that the Eleven Point needs places for people to park RVs along the river. I would like to tell some people with RVs that I know to visit the Eleven Point River, but as far as I know, you can't get an RV close to the river besides Whitten access, and the road is horrible, and the crowd is, well, it's a trailer park on the weekend.
Brian Sloss Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 They are not putting in electric hook ups if that is what you are wondering. They are putting in a retaining wall upstream of the boat ramp to keep it from washing out. Making the loop bigger and building camp sites up the road from the bathroom. That is the last thing I heard out of a few different plans, so we will see what happens. Who knows for sure. That Turner ramp could use another concrete slab or 2, especially now during low water. Doubt that is even considered for years though. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
