Fished with my brother today. We started off at the gravel parking lot below the dam. We hit the first run about 50 yards down from the spillway below the island. I fished with David Games' yellow midge with olive flash. I caught 5 fish in this run. Then I went to the backside of the island and caught 5 more. Then I decided to try a red San Juan Worm (SJW). No takers in this area.

We decided to load up and head to the Watts area. I was trying to catch a fish on the SJW because I have never used it on the LIR. Funny huh? Anyway, I picked up 2 fish on the SJW and then things slowed down. So, I added David Games' midge as a dropper off of the SJW.

Look out Door, cause Katy is fixin to Bar it. :)

I lost track of the number of fish that I caught. And, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fish in the Watts area were much bigger than the ones around the island.

Good deal DaddyO! I agree with you concerning bigger fish at Watts but I'd also like to say that there are some bigger fish above the boulders at the gravel parking lot also.

Yes, there are some nice ones up their too. I haven't fished that area in a while. What has been working for you there?

Seems to me that you have to mix it up some and keep switching up until you find the one. I've started tying some copper and black midges that have worked really well. I haven't been in a couple of wks but think I'll try and go in the morning. I'll give you an update on how that goes.

I tie a zebra midge with a copper bead, black thread and copper rib in #16 and #18 that work well for me on LIR and TaneyCoMo. I didn't have any success with it yesterday. However, I did catch one on a #16 Pheasant tail nymph.

I, also, forgot to mention that I caught 2 small brown trout. 1 below the gravel parking lot and 1 at Watts.

REPORT.

Well, my oldest son and I went to Watts this morning and arrived about 9:30. Not much flow at first but picked up as the morning went on. First 45 min. slow but found wat they were wanting or aleast looking for. I don't have a name for it but I started tying it about a month ago. It is a cross between a scud and a midge I guess.....LOL. You guys decide. All I know is it looks buggy and the trout seem to agree. I usually do really well on a couple of midges I tie and they did catch some fish today....just not as well as this creation. My son was wanting what I had on ......the only problem was.....I only had the one.......hate that for him! LOL.

Lots of fishermen on the river today........but it wasn't too crowded to fish.

Corky,

That's a good looking midge. What size hook is that? Am I seeing a grey thread body with a black wire rib and a read thread head? Or is that body material made of something else?

Do you fish it with a split shot to get it down?

Sorry DaddyO for the slow reply. I've been busy with my job and going to football games. The hook is a size 16 Tiemco 2499 SPBL . It's a grey thread body with the black wire as you mentioned. Underneath the thread is lead wire. I wrap about 6 turns first , then start the thread. I finish the head off with red thread.

If you have anymore questions, I'd be glad to assist.

Thanks, Corky. I'm gonna tie up a few and try them the next time I go down there. I'm headed to Branson on the 20th with my Dad and Brother, so, I'll try them on TaneyCoMo and the White and Norfork if I get the opportunity.
