timsfly Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Fishing was very good all week, still catching a lot of trout on beetles, ants, hoppers and cracklebacks, also if you like dry fly fishing then you should also be fishing blue wing olives, caddis and adams in sizes 16 and smaller. I fished this afternoon, caught about 15 most on a olive grizzly crackle back but a few were on a #20 adams parachute. I fished 7X tippet and my 1wt it was a good afternoon of fishing the fish were very active, fishing was very good for most of the people I talked to this weekend, a few were having issues, but after seeing they were using 6 and 8 lb line and after we change that line to a 3lb line they did much better. We are still catching a lot of trout on zebra midges, pheasant tails, burlaps, sow bugs and copper johns, small egg patterns have been good producers the past few weeks, orange or pink has been the best colors. Small thread jigs fished a 24" to 36" have been working well, white, and brown have been good colors, and the ole john deere green has been working very well this week. Olive, black, and brown buggers have been good all week. If you are fishing spinners, then black, white and brown have all been good in the mornings. Plastic worms are always a good bet, orange, orange/white, cheese yellow and john deere green have been the top producers this week. If you are fishing eggs, white, and brown are good most of the time, but on the overcast days the flo. yellow and the chartreuse work very well. In zone 3 night crawlers, corn, power bait pastes and live minnows will be your best bet, remember the river is still very low and just a bit off color right now, but it will clear very quickly this week, unless it rains a lot more, good luck on the river this week and use 2lb line it will give the best results right now.
