Ted Calcaterra Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Why won't the state stock brown trout in the Eleven Point? Is it because of the hellbender??? Browns would rock in that river!
Justin Spencer Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I've caught several there in the past, and they were big! Members Troutdude Posted October 31, 2012 Members Posted October 31, 2012 I caught one there in 2008. Call me a liar but, I know my fish and what it was. Consequently, this past weekend I was on the Point and one of the people in our group claims to have caught one. I was down river atr the time and can't substantiate this. However, I have a sneaky suspicion that somehow they are getting into the Point be it from a covert stocking effort, screwed up hatchery stocking or whatever, I know for a fact what I caught and it was a brown. Flame on, I can take it.
snap Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 they come up from the Mississippi River to spawn!!!
Guest Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 They may have moved up from the spring river. Trout love to migrate.
Brian Sloss Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Though it would be like winning the lottery, it is possible to have a brown trout on the Eleven Point. It would have to run (in the winter) down river about 40 miles (Spring) and then up about 40-50 miles to get to the lower end of the Eleven Point trout water. The conservation dept did shock a brown 14 miles below Riverton one spring during a population survey. I get people who tell me they caught a brown, but 99.9% of those are misidentified. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
