timsfly Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Fishing was great this week, the weather was great for the start of the C&R season, the wind was the biggest problem, the fish were very eager to bite on friday and saturday, sunday was a bit slower, but monday the weather was near perfect and the dry fly fishing was fantastic, we caught lots of trout on Blue Wing Olives, RS2's, parachute adams and small griffiths gnats most of the dries I fished yesterday were size 20's and smaller, 7X tippet and 9' leaders, I didn't even try for any big fish yesterday, they needed a rest, and the dry fly fishing was just that good. I'll bet I landed 40 + trout yesterday on my one weight and small dries. Friday, I fished san juan worms, glo balls, bigger buggers and some streamers and did very well, I had 7 trout on friday that were over 4lbs, a couple going close to 7, there are a nice number of big fish in the river, MDC stocked 150 lunkers and 1200 regular sized rainbows, 12-15" so fishing was great, on saturday the fishing slowed a bit for me, but I talked to several fisherman that were doing very well on small copper johns and pheasant tail nymphs, and very small egg patterns. I know a few guys did very well on fri and sat fishing a hopper with a small pheasant tail as a dropper, and I talked to one guy who swore he had over 50 trout on saturday on a brown #24 zebra midge, I watched him hook 6, but he never got one all the way in, but he was sure hooking them. I caught 4 saturday that were over 20" and sunday I only caught 2 over 20" but there are so many nice fish in the river, it was very good fishing. Come down and take advantage of the great fishing on the weekends, we fish fri-monday 8:00-4:00 Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
ruthead Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Do hooks have to be barbless? I have starting smashing the barbs on a lot of my flies but not all. Are most useing barbless now? "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
timsfly Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 You don't have to use barbless, I do it is just easier. A lot of fisherman do use barbless, year round now. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Members Trout Newb Posted November 14, 2012 Members Posted November 14, 2012 Likely a dumb question, but this dummy needs clarification - Do you need to have MO trout tag / stamp to fish during the catch and release season, or do you just need to buy a daily tag at the park store?
timsfly Posted November 14, 2012 Author Posted November 14, 2012 Just the yearly trout stamp during the C&R season Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop

timsfly Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Caught a lot on the San Juans this weekend, I'm sight fishing them mostly, with little or no weight. I'm fishing them on a 9' 6X leader most of the time. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
