Does anyone have a fairly simple sculpin recipe they would like to share? I just got back into tying and am wanting to tie up some sculpins for Taney.

There's lots of simple, effective sculpin patterns out there, and lots of recipes and tying instructions online. A short list-

Rabbit Matuka (you can omit the deer hair/woolhead if you're adverse to them)

Near-Nuff Sculpin

Slumpbuster

Bow River Bugger

Zonker

There's a lot of other patterns out there, places like flytyingforum.com can be a really good place to look for inspiration.

Some of those look great. I have looked a lot online and I just don't know if there is a particular style or pattern that works well at Taney. Also I notice that some are very simple patterns and some are much more detailed and really take a sculpin form. Would the more detailed fly make a huge difference?

No, I like Hunts High water sculpin, there is a sbs in the past here in the tying forum. Look at BWise's videos.. some of those flies could be construed as sculpins.

Are you wanting big sculpins or small ones... kinda makes a difference on the pattern. I caught a couple of fish on a meal ticket this summer that was reddish/brown and olive and it could have maybe looked like a sculpin.

I checked out a video on the high water sculpin, I think that might be a little too advanced for me, but mostly a little too large for what I am wanting to throw.

Here is a link to a sbs that I came across, let me know what your opinions are. It seems fairly simple, but I am not sure if a cone head or a dumbbell eye look would be better, also not sure on the colors. Thanks for the help.

I am not new to this site. But lately I have been using an IPAD and I have been having problems running the video's sometimes

It works (no interruptions) and other times it just stops. Does anybody know what my problem is?

Thanks

I really like the first fly there, two hooks is a little ambitious for my skill level. Do you or anyone else around here know of a fly shop in the Springfield/Branson area that carries the helmets?
