Members LWW Posted November 16, 2012 Members Posted November 16, 2012 I've been reading lately about finding fish suspended in trees or relating to specific structure in the lake. I've been fishing the Rock for about 10yrs now, and haven't studied my Hotspot maps or updated my navionics chip since about then. Lately, I've found myself running the same water over and over. Eager to explore new water, I realized I need to do a little research. In regards to searching out submerged wood, are these old maps reliable? In other words, has anyone noticed any significant difference in new maps/chips vs the old?
jeb Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 If you know the versions of the chip you have, you can probably call Navionics and ask them if there has been any updates to the lakes you fish. Generally, the new chips have more and more "High Def" lakes on them, which means lakes that have the maximum detail. So if TR was already HD on the chip you have, it is probably the same. jeb Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Here are some screenshots from the Hotmaps South and the New Hotmaps Premium South lots more detail That is the difference between an HD lake and non-HD, like I talked about above. Makes a huge difference. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Members CMF Posted November 23, 2012 Members Posted November 23, 2012 And remember, the "Hotspots" maps are a whole different company then the "Navionics premium maps......Both sell a "south" region.....I have Navionics, but I'm not near as of an avid fisherman I have been for MANY years...From those thumbnails KirtH attached, it appears the hotspots map are way better then they used to be. In fact, I'm way out of touch with the newest stuff, so many of the other guys should have better and more up-to-date info. Martin
