For the week of July 4th this year, the in-laws hosted the whole family at their time share for the entire week. Lets just say I dont fit the typical demographic for most of what Branson has to offer. As I was itching to find something to do I came across Lake Taneycomo and the gem of Lilleys Landing.

I was fishing all week and didnt catch a thing. I tried lures from the dock, lures in the trophy area no luck. I tried bait fishing and used every color combination known to man but still no luck. The worst was all of the fish swiming around me in the trophy area but not being enticed by the thought of eating my lure. Thats when I wished I had paid more attention to David Karadene so I could reach down and snatch them out of the water with my bare hands. Anywase, even this cruel taunting was better than siting around the time share or catching Bransons best quartet. (btw nothing against the quartet...I know they are extremely talented its just not my thing)

Well as luck would have it Friday came and so did the fish. I finally caught a few and it was fun. There is also something manly about grilling up your fresh catch for the family...especially after a week of being skunked. (please no lectures on C&R because I know all about it and mostly do it accept for a few that will fit in my pan after a hard days work)

However, just bait fishing seemed a little boring. Realizing that such an incredible place was only 6 hours away, it got me thinking about trying to learn how to fly fish so there could be a little more sport to catching them. I found a flyfish class at the local Jr. college and signed up.

I just so happens that my buddy is getting married around Branson in a few weeks. So we booked a place at the Landing and hopefully I cant test my new found skills. It will be my first time actually fly fishing on a lake so I dont have much expectations but hopefully it will be a blast. My buddies also an outdoorsman so we are trying to get a place on the lake for the bachelor party. It would be ideal for him to just hang out with a pole in his hand on a great lake the night before his big day.

Apparantely the water will be much colder in Nov and the fish should be more active so hopefully I will have more luck because I dont have a week to try this time =)
