Guest Bry Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Most professional tournament anglers know about it, but the rest of us probably aren't familiar with the name. Navico is currently the world's largest marine electronics company. In the last few years they have been phasing out more than a dozen diff. fishing electronics brands worldwide. From what I gathered after reading a recent article,Navico has been buying marine electronics companies around the globe, and will be discontinuing almost all of them. Then they will be combining those technologies, and will focus on only manufacturing maybe 3 or 4 brands with Lowrance being one of the few Navico brands left after the phase out. Earlier in the year Hummingbird ,owned by Johnson Outdoors, sued Navico over structure scan patents. Last thing I heard was they settled out- of- court and that the settlement was to remain confidential. Navico and Garmin then go to court over trade secrets, business interests, contracts, ect. Garmin evidently offered jobs to top Navico engineers, the people who had the knowledge of secret, advanced marine technology. I believe Navico won the case, but I would imagine Garmin gained valuable, and secret electronic info. Google it, and see if your favorite marine electronics brand has been discontinued..... mine was (the reason I posted this topic here was due to the number of topics, comments and visits this forum receives)
Troy Gregg Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Bry, we must have posted about the same time. What electronics brand do you have currently? Troy Gregg
Troy Gregg Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Navman was purchased by Navico in 1990. The Amplitude Scope or A-Scope has been transferred into the Lowrance units and gives real time feedback to whats going on the sonar cone. Each fish has its own behavior and that is what I key in on. If it works then use it Troy Gregg
