Oh, I know that pattern. I thought this was a River Run Outfitter fly tied by Carolyn. I think she called it the lighting something....I never fished it though. It's a catchy fly, kind of like an attractor pattern.

Jeremy,

I first heard of the pattern when Steve Dally said it was hot on Beaver.

Terry

That is it. Thanks

I saw it also in the Feathercraft catalogue. They have them in red, black and pearl.

I assume the thread ab is covered with the flashabou? I guess for the pearl version you would use white thread. Wonder how the wing case is tied in? Can you help us motroutbum?

yes that is the pattern. for the pearl one, you use red thread, just as the picture shows. It started in the Umpqua catalog, well at least that is where he originally submitted it. It is a very effective pattern.

It looks alot like the Lightning bug that was hot on the White last fall. Those were tied with black thread though.

Not really....a lightening bug is tied like a phesant tail on a straight shank hook and uses peacock as the thorax not dubbing. It is tied with krystal flash and not flashabou.

Is the flashabou (pearl) tied to cover the thread by palmering over it, and how is the wingcase tied in?

When tying the black is the flashabou covering the thread again. Flashabou being a transparent material I assume that's how one gets the various color designs. The ones in the catalogues says black, pearl and red.
